++----------------------------------------------------------------------++ ++ ++ ++ Shareware Quake Texture WAD2 Builder Version 1.00 ++ ++ ++ ++----------------------------------------------------------------------++ By Michael Stokes, ** INTRODUCTION - IMPORTANT ** This program extracts the textures used by Quake's levels and places them in the WAD2 format, which can then be used in editors. Please note that the textures extracted by this program cannot be sold or used for commercial gain, as they REMAIN PROPERTY OF ID SOFTWARE. The resulting WAD2 file could be used for the development of level editors, however under the Quake license it is FORBIDDEN TO DISTRIBUTE OR USE 3RD PARTY LEVELS WITH THE SHAREWARE VERSION. The author disclaims all responsibility for this program. You are using it at your own risk. ** INSTRUCTIONS ** To get MK_WAD2 to work, unzip the ZIP file into your \QUAKE\ID1 directory, then simply type: mkwad2 You can delete MKWAD2.EXE AND SWUNPACK.EXE afterwards, if you wish. The program will extract the levels out of your PAK file if nessesary, and then build a WAD2 file called "QUAKETEX.WAD" based on the results. It will take around 30 seconds or so. ** WHAT DOES THE WAD FILE CONTAIN ** The WAD file is in "WAD2" format and contains first a PALETTE (@) lump with the Quake Shareware Palette, followed by MIP (D) lumps for each texture found. ** KNOWN BUGS ** 1. If the same texture is used more than once in the whole game, it is included more than once. This will be fixed in version 1.1 soon! 2. In the second level, a very strange and very large texture is extraced that shouldn't really be there. It won't effect the overall product, however. 3. I haven't tested it with QBSP, although I've looked at the code. I have only tested with my own little extractor.. ** CONTACT INFORMATION - BUGS & SUGGESTIONS ** I can be contacted at stokfam@mail.psinet.net.au I am currently working on a program called "Quake Desktop" that incorporates features such as these in a user friendly desktop environment.
