Here is some tidbits of info from ASA ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for your interest in ASA. This should be the second letter received from me concerning ASA. I am sorry I can not answer each letter individually, because of the massive volume of mail I have recieved since posting the ASA info file. I will try to answer all questions asked in this one letter. First of all, membership in ASA is very simple. If you do something for us, you will be included in the member listing that is posted with all ASA releases. ASA is a non-profit organization. Everything is done for the mutual benefit of all our members and the general computing society. No one is paid, and no one is ever required to do anything. It is all a volunteer based organization. I am hoping to find people who are willing to share their talents with others and in furthering the spread of ASA. By uniting individuals under a common name, it allows the computing society to recognize ASA as an invididual entity with common goals. By being a part of ASA, you will share in its liveliness. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ok, now that the serious side of it has been mentioned, let's talk about what ASA needs now. Solvers - If you can solve games, and can write pretty good English, then this is the job for you. This is a very important group, we are looking desperately for solvers. There are lots of games out there. This includes hint files to complete walk throughs. Trainers- This category includes people who are assembly language oriented and know how to make cheats for games. We are also in great need of trainers. Quick Dox/Artists/Music/Programmers/Etc - If you feel you can help out ASA in any way, just tell me and I will try to find something you could help us out with. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ASA currently has an ftp site avalable to the public. It holds all of our releases and has an ASAinfo file (which most of you have seen). If you have ftp capability, then you can ftp there and pick up our newest releases. ftp.uwp.edu /pub/incoming/ASA or /pub/msdos/asa We also have several distribution sites throughout the country. As of this writing, we will have six boards across the nation. I do not really want a huge distribution listing, b/c I feel that the files will be passed around more efficiently by sending to the big boards, and not the smaller ones. However, if you do not have internet access, and would like to get our releases, send a reply with your area code, and I will see about getting a dist. site there. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- How does the group get work? Basically there are two ways: 1) By request: ASA will do a request for solves/cracks/trainers/quick dox for any game. There are two ways request are made. One way is to email me directly, or the other way (which is better), is to send a msg to ASAbot on IRC. Once a request is made, all ASA will be notified of that request (the ones that may do it, solvers would be notified of a solve for a game). If any of the members want to do it, they reply to me and I record it. When that member finishes, i reply to the requester and release the solve as an ASA release. 2) Automatically: Any time a new game comes out, that game is applicable for 'ASA processing'. If you are an ASA member and you wish to write a solve for the game, just notify me and I will know that someone is working on it. Pretty simple. Therefore, you can either wait to see the request list (sent to you by me weekly), or you can get a new game and just do it. (email me to let me know though). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ideas for ASA o A weekly or monthly newsletter on ASA happenings o International distribution (we already have Spain, China, and Australia involved) o A 1-800 Voice Mail Box for ASA members to keep track of whats going on o Anything else we can think of! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I hope this little info letter has helped explained the purpose and designs of ASA. If you still have questions, I would be more than likely to answer them. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// OK, I WANT TO JOIN! WHAT DO I DO NOW! A lot of you have been asking this, so here it is. How to gain ASA membership and advantages. 1) Decide what you want to do (solve/trainer/cheat/etc) and for what game 2) Email me on your decision 3) I will respond Yes or NO. (no b/c either its been done, or someone else is already doing it, or for other reasons which i will explain). 4) If you receive a YES, then do what you wanted to do, when you finish, you send me a message you finished it and send it to me. 5) I release the new work with your name in the member listing, and you become officialy an ASA member. Easy! later and i hope to see some messages from ya'll!
