Triple Take v1.1 by John P. Timm ** DISTRIBUTE FREELY ** _______________________________________________________________ ABOUT TRIPLE TAKE: --------------------------------------------------------------- Triple Take v1.1 is a challenging card game for DOS. At the beginning of each game, there will be 69 cards remaining in the deck, 12 cards on the board, and 0 cards cleared. Each card has four properties: 1) Color: Green, Purple, Red 2) Fill Pattern: Empty, Lines, Solid 3) Shape: Circle, Rectangle, Square 4) Number of Objects: One, Two, or Three You must highlight three cards which... ... all have the same color OR all have different colors, AND ... all have the same fill pattern OR all have a different pattern, AND ... all have the same shape OR all have different shapes, AND ... all have the same number of objects OR all have a different number of objects If that doesn't make sense, check out the EXAMPLES section! Anyway, the cards will disappear if they meet the all of the above conditions. They'll be replaced by three cards from the deck (if three remain in the deck, of course). Keep on clearing sets of three cards until it's not possible to clear any more. If it's not possible to clear any more cards because there aren't any left on the board, then you've accomplished the goal of clearing all 81 cards! (Be sure to kick back and watch the show if you succeed!) Piece of cake, right? I'll let you decide! _______________________________________________________________ SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: --------------------------------------------------------------- VGA Monitor (640x480 mode), DOS, and a mouse and/or keyboard. If you want to use the mouse, make sure your mouse driver is loaded before playing the game. You may (probably will) experience problems if you try to run Triple Take in Windows! _______________________________________________________________ MOUSE/KEYBOARD CONTROLS: --------------------------------------------------------------- If you're using a mouse, select a card by clicking on it! Clicking on the card a second time will deselect the card. Click on the QUIT button to quit Triple Take. Click on the DEAL button to end the current game and deal another game of Triple Take. Click on the OVER? button to ask the computer if it's possible to continue with the current game. If the game is over, the computer will flash a brief message and deal a new game for you. If the game is not over, the computer will indicate this fact. If you're using the keyboard, select/deselect a card by using these keys (uppercase or lowercase): Q W E R (top row) A S D F (middle row) Z X C V (bottom row) ALT-Q will quit Triple Take. ALT-D will end the current game and deal another game of Triple Take. ALT-O will let you know whether or not the current game is over. _______________________________________________________________ EXAMPLES: --------------------------------------------------------------- Examples #1 and #2 each depict three cards which, when selected as a group, will be replaced by three others from the deck (if three remain): Example #1 (colors all different, fill all different, shape all different, number of objects all different): 1st CARD 2nd CARD 3rd CARD RED GREEN PURPLE EMPTY LINES SOLID CIRCLE SQUARE RECTANGLE ONE TWO THREE Example #2 (colors all same, fill all different, shape all same, number of objects all different): 1st CARD 2nd CARD 3rd CARD RED RED RED EMPTY LINES SOLID CIRCLE CIRCLE CIRCLE ONE TWO THREE Examples #3 and #4 each depict three cards which, when selected as a group, will NOT be replaced by three others from the deck: Example #3 (colors all different, fill all different, shape all different, number of objects NOT all different and NOT all same): 1st CARD 2nd CARD 3rd CARD RED GREEN PURPLE EMPTY LINES SOLID CIRCLE SQUARE RECTANGLE ONE TWO TWO Example #4 (colors NOT all same and NOT all different, fill all same, shape NOT all same and NOT all different, number of objects all different): 1st CARD 2nd CARD 3rd CARD RED GREEN RED EMPTY EMPTY EMPTY CIRCLE SQUARE CIRCLE ONE TWO THREE _______________________________________________________________ CHEATING: --------------------------------------------------------------- You cannot cheat in Triple Take! The closest you can come to cheating in Triple Take is to click on the "OVER?" button (ALT-O if you're using the keyboard). If a new game starts, then you could've spent all day & night looking and you wouldn't have be able to clear more cards! If a new game doesn't start, look a little harder at the cards on the board! _______________________________________________________________ THE AUTHOR OF TRIPLE TAKE: --------------------------------------------------------------- One of my hobbies is to program games using Turbo C 2.0. I got the idea to program Triple Take after being told about an excellent card game called SET (copyright SET Enterprises Inc., 1988-1991). Several friends became addicted to this card game, and asked me to program it so they could play it on their PCs. This is the result.
